This textured fan beanie was one of my very first crochet patterns!

Caron Simply Soft

I 5.5mm Crochet Hook

J 6.00mm Crochet Hook

Stitches:

CH: Chain- Yarn over pull through one loop.

SS: Slip stitch- Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over and pull through both the stitch and loop on the hook.

DC: Double crochet- Yarn over. Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over pull through stitch. Yarn over pull through two loops. Yarn over pull through two loops.

SC: Single crochet- Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over pull through two loops.

HDC: Half double crochet- Yarn over. Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over pull through stitch. Yarn over pull through three stitches.

FPHDC: Yarn over. Insert hook around the front to back and around stitch. Yarn over pull through stitch. Yarn over pull through three stitches.

BPHDC: Yarn over. Insert hook around the stitch fron back to front into stitch. Yarn over pull through stitch. Yarn over pull through three stitches.
Make magic ring.

Instructions:

Row 1: Chain 2. Work 8 HDC in ring. Join with SS on top of first HDC made. (8)

Row 2: Chain 1. In same stitch work 2HDC. Repeat 2HDC in each stitch around. Join with SS in top of first 2HDC
of row. (16)

Row 3: Chain 1. In same stitch work 2HDC. HDC in next stitch. Repeat (2HDC, HDC) all the way around. Join with
SS on top of first HDC made. (24)

Row 4: Chain 1. In same stitch work 2HDC. One HDC in next 2 stitches. Repeat (2HDC, HDC, HDC) all the way
around. Join with SS in top of first HDC made. (32)

Row 5: Chain 1. In same stitch work 2HDC. One HDC in next 3 stitches. Repeat (2HDC, HDC, HDC, HDC) all the way
around. Join with SS in top of the first HDC made. (40)

Row 6: Chain 1. In same stitch work 2HDC. One HDC in next 4  stitches. Repeat (2HDC, HDC, HDC, HDC, HDC) all
the way around. Join with SS in top of first HDC made. (48)

Row 7: Chain 3. In same stitch work one DC. *Skip the next 2 unworked stitches. Make 3DC in same stitch.
Working backwards make 3DC in the last skipped stitch. Skip the next unworked stitch. Make one DC in next
two stitches.* Repeat from * to * all the way around. With 2 stitches remaining skip one and DC in last stitch.
Join with SS in top of first DC made.

Row 8: Chain 3. In same stitch make 3DC.Working backwards make 3DC in the last DC from previous round.
Skip next 2 unworked stitches. Make 1 DC in next two stitches. *Skip the next 3 unworked stitches. Make 3 DC
in the next stitch.Working backwards make 3DC in the last skipped stitch. Skip the next 2 unworked stitches.
Make one DC in the next two stitches* Repeat from * to * all the way around. Join with SS in top of the first DC
made.

Row 9: SS in next three stitches. Chain 3 and DC in the same stitch.*Skip the next 3 unworked stitches.Make 3DC in
the next stitch.Working backwards make 3DC in the last skipped stitch. Skip the next 2 unworked stitches. Make
one DC in the next two stitches* Repeat from * to * all the way around. Lastly DC into the second SS made on
previous round. Join with SS in top of first DC made.

Repeat row 8 & 9 til hat measures 6 inches from top.

Repeat row 8 if it wasn’t the last row completed.

Chain 1. HDC in next stitch. *Sc in next four. HDC in next four.* Repeat from * to * until three stitches remain.
Make HDC in the last 3 stitches.

If you prefer a tighter fitting band switch to a smaller hook.
Row 1: Chain 1. HDC all the way around. Join with SS in top of first HDC made. (63)
Row 2: Chain 1. Alternate FPHDC and BPHDC. Join with a SS in top of first HDC made.

Finish off.
