Crochet Tutorial: How To Make The Front Post And Back Post Double Crochet

Both front and back post double crochet are used to make the basket weave stitch, ribbing, cables and so much more.

The common abbreviation for these two stitches are:

Front post Double Crochet: FPDC

Back post double crochet: BPDC

When working with front post and back post crochet stitches, instead of inserting your hook inside the stitch you are going to work around the whole post of the actual stitch.

To make the front post double crochet, yarn over, insert your hook through the front between the two stitches. Weaving back around, insert your hook from back to front, yarn over, pull around post, yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through two loops.

To make the back post double crochet, yarn over, insert the hook from back to front between the two stitches. Weaving around the front insert your hook from front to back, yarn over, pull around post, yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through two loops.
