Materials:

Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn

I 5.50mm Crochet Hook (J 6.00mm Crochet Hook, K 6.50mm Crochet Hook)

Gauge:

Small: 6 Hdc = 2 inches

Medium: 8 Hdc = 3 inches

Large: 9 Hdc = 4 inches

Stitches:

SS: (Slip Stitch) – Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over. Pull through stitch and loop.

Ch: (Chain) – Yarn over. Pull through loop.

Sc: (Single Crochet) – Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over. Draw up loop. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops.

Hdc: (Half Double Crochet) – Yarn over. Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over.  Draw up loop. Yarn over. Pull through 3 loops.

Dc: (Double Crochet) – Yarn over. Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over. Draw up loop. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops.

Notes:

  • Turning chain does NOT count as your first stitch (unless otherwise specified). So, when working flat, be sure to work your first stitch in the very first stitch. And when working in the round, be sure to work your first stitch in the same stitch as join.

Instructions:

Chain 70. Join with a SS to form a loop. If you have trouble doing this, check out my fool proof for Joining Chains in the Round.

Round 1: Chain 1. *Hdc in the next 9 Chains. 2Hdc in the next chain.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the first Hdc made. (77)

Round 2: Chain 1. *2Hdc in the first stitch. Hdc in the next 10 stitches.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the First Hdc made. (84)

Round 3: Chain 1. *Hdc in the next 11 Chains. 2Hdc in the next chain.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the first Hdc made. (91)

Round 4: Chain 1. *2Hdc in the first stitch. Hdc in the next 12 stitches.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the First Hdc made. (98)

Round 5: Chain 1. *Hdc in the next 13 Chains. 2Hdc in the next chain.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the first Hdc made. (105)

Round 6: Chain 1. *2Hdc in the first stitch. Hdc in the next 14 stitches.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the First Hdc made. (112)

Round 7: Chain 1. *Hdc in the next 15 Chains. 2Hdc in the next chain.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the first Hdc made. (119)

Round 8: Chain 1. *2Hdc in the first stitch. Hdc in the next 16 stitches.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the First Hdc made. (126)

Round 11: Chain 1. *Hdc in the next 19 Chains. 2Hdc in the next chain.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the first Hdc made. (147)

Round 12-18: Chain 1. Hdc in each stitch around. Join with a SS to the first Hdc made. (147)

Round 19: Chain 1. Hdc in the next 21. Chain 6. Skip the next 35. Hdc in the next 42 stitches. Chain 6. Skip the next 35 stitches. Hdc in the next 21 stitches. Join with a SS to the first Hdc made.

Round 20 – 23: Chain 1. Hdc in each stitch around. Join with a SS to the first Hdc made. (96)

Change Color

Round 24: Chain 2. *[Dc. Chain 1.] x’s 4. In the same stitch. Skip the next 3 stitches. Sc in the next stitch. Chain 5. Skip the next 3 stitches. Sc in the next stitch. Chain 1. Skip the next 3 stitches.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the first Dc made.

Round 25: SS into the first chain 1 space. Chain 2. *[3Dc in the next chain 1 space (first 3Dc will be placed in the same space as SS). Chain 2.] x’s 2. 3Dc in the next chain 1 space. (Sc. Chain 3. Sc.) in the next chain 5 space. Skip next chain 1 space* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the first Dc made.

Round 26: SS into the next 2 Dc and next chain space. Chain 1. *Sc in the next Chain 2 space (first sc will be in the same stitch as SS). Chain 5. Sc in the next chain 2 space. Chain 1. [Dc. Chain 1.] x’s 4. in the next chain 3 space.* Repeat from * to * around. Join wth a SS to the first Sc made.

Round 27: SS into the next chain. Chain 1. *(Sc. Chain 3. Sc.) in the next chain 5 space. Skip next Chain 1 space and Dc. [3Dc in the next chain 1 space. Chain 2.] x’s 2. 3Dc in the next chain 1 space.* Repeat from * to * around. SS into the first Sc made. 

Round 28: SS into the next chain. Chain 2. *[Dc. Chain 1.] x’s 4. In the next chain 3 space. Sc in the next chain 2 space. Chain 5. Sc in the next chain 2 space. Chain 1.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the first Dc made.

Round 29 – 45: Repeat rounds 25 – 28 ending in round 25 or desired length.

Finish off. Weave in ends.
